If you are interested to pass a different experience in Cusco, where you will walk through the sierra jungle and later connect to Machu Picchu. This Trek to Lares Valley and Machu Picchu is a trail that offers the trekker an insight into the real lives of the Andean farmer, dressed in their traditional brightly colored ponchos and you will have the opportunity to see thatched stone houses surrounded by herds of llamas and alpacas as you never saw in one travel to Peru. Inside the houses you will see guinea pigs running loose for all floor.

 

The trek to Lares & Machu Picchu is classified as moderate, 'cause it is similar to the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. However, one highpass reach the 4000 meters (13123 ft.), for finally get to Machu Picchu.

Day 01: Cusco - Calca - Lares hot springs - Wacawasi

Early in the morning we pick up you from your hotel in our transport we will travel through the Sacred Valley to Calca Village from here two more hour until Lares the most special enjoy in the Lares Hot Springs and spend the morning in the medicinal hot springs, after lunch we start our trekking around 2 hour with 30 minutes to Wacawasi the campsite, we fraternize with the locals. Dinner and camp at night.

Day 02: Wakawasi - Espsaycocha Lake

After the breakfast we continue up through the valley, we will see  people  producing some of the finest weavings in Peru. Here, we can observe their great skills and brilliant techniques in the fabrication of ponchos and other garments. Passing the village we begin climbing up to Condor Pass, the second of the trip at 4100m. or 13451 ft.  Lunch time. After cross the pass, we catch a stunning view of the renowned Mount Veronica 5750m. (18865 ft.) Walking down gently for about one hour, we come to the beautiful Ipsaycocha Lake, our last campsite.

Day 03: Epsaycocha Lake- Patacancha - Huylloc - Pumamarka - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

Today our trail leads downhill to an overlook facing a wide valley. Descending into the valley, we eventually arrive to the community of Huylloc where we have lunch, from here takes two hours to arrive to Pumamarka and enjoy the Inca terraces, finally we arrive to Ollantaytambo. Situated in a fertile river valley and sheltered by mammoth mountains, this ancient Inca village is considered one of the most important living museums in the world. This is a perfect place to appreciate the vast archeological remains and a wide variety of flowers and birds species. We will take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes at the afternoon and spend the night in Aguas Calientes in a comfortable hostel.

Day 04: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - - Cusco

Very early (5:00 a.m.) we will have our breakfast, and then to catch the first bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu. After your ticket has been looked we will start the tour in the citadel about two hours with 30 minutes. Next you will climb the mountain Huaynapicchu (do you have to book in advance) and visit the different sites recommended by our guide, such as Inti Punku(sun gate) and Inka Bridge. Finally, return by train to the town of Ollantaytambo, and then take the bus to return to Cusco.

What do I need to bring?

  • Backpack with rain shelter.
  • Sleeping bag
  • Clothing for warm and cold climate like a waterproof jacket.
  • Rain pants and lightweight pants.
  • Trekking shoes.
  • Slippers or sandals (for showers and hot springs).
  • Woollen or synthetic socks and a sweater.
  • Long- and short-sleeved polo’s/T-Shirts.
  • Rain poncho and a hat.
  • Bathing suit (for the hot springs in Aguas Calientes).
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent, disinfecting alcohol and gel, water bottle and sterilizing tablets, toiletries and toilet paper.
  • Camera (wrapped in plastic bag), a flash light and batteries.
  • Some snacks like chocolate bars and dry fruit.
  • Original passport, original ISIC student card and extra money in soles.
  • Since the weather can be very cold and moistly, your clothes - once gotten wet - won’t dry at night. So take some clothes to change.
