11 hotels in Perú among the best in Southamerica

29 October 2013

The hotel industry recorded a growth path auspicious supported by the high rates of growth in the tourism sector . An international ranking recognizes the quality of Peruvian hotels on the Cusco region and highlights the department as best hotels in the country .

The readers of Condé Nast Traveler, one of the best travel magazines in the world, selected the 25 best hotels in the region , through a survey that took into account only Argentina , Peru , Brazil, Colombia and Chile. In the ranking , highlighted eleven Peruvian hotels, of which three are in Lima and nine in the interior.

Arequipa is the first Peruvian department to appear in the list, thanks to the second place occupied by the Hotel Casitas del Colca, located in Caylloma province .

Next in the ranking, it appears the department of Cusco . Being the country's main tourist attraction , not surprising majority presence in the ranking , with 6 hotels . With the number nine , stands the Hotel Monasterio, located at the entrance to Machu Picchu, followed by Aranwa Sacred Valley Hotel, located in Urubamba, which is in position fourteen. Also, in positions 16 and 17 are located the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel and Aranwa Boutique Hotel, respectively. Finally , 24 and 25 positions are occupied by the Hotel Casa Andina Sacred Valley and the Hotel Palacio Del Inka, respectively.

Ica is also present, with the twelfth position obtained by the Hotel Paracas Luxury Collection. Meanwhile, Lima located three luxury hotels in the top 25 in the region. With the posts 13, 19 and 21 include the Country Club Hotel, the JW Marriott and the Swissotel , respectively .

Earlier this week , the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) reported that due to the major brands of hotel chains in the country and the quality of service offered, the average occupancy of luxury hotels in Peru , mainly corporate, currently stands at 90 % a year. Carlos Canales, president of the institution, said the high occupancy in this segment is reflected in the increase in rates, so there is a high profitability of the hotel industry in Peru, which is the level of the main countries of the region. As recalled, in June this year, Canatur reported that investment in hotels and restaurants add U.S. $ 1.500 million through 2016. This is expected to generate 50,000 jobs in the same period. The institution also noted that most of these investments will target provinces, especially to the north and northeast of the country .

These estimates are supported by the auspicious expected growth figures in the tourism sector. On Wednesday , Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, said the Peruvian tourism will grow 12% in 2013, compared to 2012, according to figures from MINCETUR. With this, reach a total of 3.2 million visitors, most of whom come from countries in the region. According to the ranking of tourist arrivals in the first half of Chile is the world's largest country source of tourists to Peru, followed by the United States , Ecuador, Bolivia , Brazil and European countries. Peru Foreign Tourists caught in 2012 generated U.S. $ currency 3.229 million, an improvement of 11 % compared to U.S. $ 2.912 million raised in 2011 , according to industry statistics .

Through the publication of these rankings, as well as the promising industry figures, it is clear that the hotel industry in the country is a growing sector and whose demand is increasing year after year. Backed by expected growth figures for the tourism sector, it is predictable that investments in this area will continue an upward path in the coming years. For starters, the directors of the JW Marriot in April announced that they will invest around U.S. $ 40 million for the construction of two new hotels in the capital. Both constructs point to the tourist and corporate segment and will be located in San Isidro and Miraflores . The first will be ready by the end of 2014, while the second in mid- 2015 .

However, you also need to make reforms to boost the sector and promote this expected growth. Carlos Canales, president of Canatur, notes that while this growing market is ready for arrival of other major hotel brands, a potential for growth in the sector is the bureaucratic obstacles and lack of incentives to make investments in the hotel business .
