About 250,000 domestic and foreign tourists are expected to flock to Peru's southern region of Cusco in September, the Regional Office of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) announced on the last friday of August.
According to the Cusco-based entity, there were a total of 1.183,712 tourists visiting Cusco's tourist attractions in the period between January to June this year, 740,014 of them were foreigners and the remaining were Peruvian nationals.
"That means that, during that period, tourist arrivals to Cusco hit a 4.46% increase compared with last year's stretch", Luis Angel Aragón, Dircetur's head told Andina News Agency.
Likewise, the local tourism official expressed confidence that the region will surpass last year's visitors numbers. "We are expecting the arrival of more than 2.7 million visitors by year-end 2014, most of them will be foreigners than national tourists"
"Services being offered to tourists visiting the region are of high quality. [...] This is why Cusco will continue luring visitors from within Peru and abroad in the next comming years,"he added.
