In Cusco gathered 215,000 tourist for June celebrations

The last passacaglia in Cusco was yesterday with dances, troupes, allegories and musical shows will be part of the program of kacharpari 2014, prepared for enterprise of celebrations of Cusco (EMUFEC).

The delightful Cusco region, in south-eastern Peru, attracted a total of 217,056 visitors from within the country and abroad during the festival-packed Jubilee month of June, it was reported Friday.

According to the latest data from the regional office for foreign trade and tourism (Dircetur), the reported figure was up 3.4 percent over the same period last year, while 62 percent of the total number flocked to Cusco from overseas.

“The largest group of travelers arrived from the United States, followed by Brazil, France, Argentine, United Kingdom and Japan,” said Luis Angel Aragon, head of Cusco Dircetur.

Speaking to Andina news agency, the tourist official noted that in the reported period the number of flights which take off from and landed to the region which hosts Peru’s most visited destinations totaled 994.

Likewise, Aragon pointed out Cusco lured 728,412 tourists from January to April, up 6 percent from the year-ago period.

“We are in peak season […] so we expect more domestic and foreign tourist arrivals by year-end,” he said, adding, “According to our estimates, nearly 2.8 million tourists will probably flock [to Cusco] this year”.
