New section of Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

The researches of the national archaeological park of Machu Picchu with the Decentralized Management of Culture In Cusco, discovered a new section of Inca Trail that conduce to Wayraqtambo area until the platform where it can appreciate the Lllaqta Inca of Machu Picchu, since angle totally different.


The Wayraqtambo area or Winds Tambo is located in the posterior part of Machu Picchu mountain, among the archaeological sites of Wiñay Wayna and Intipata that formed part of the actual Inca Trail that conduce to Machu Picchu.


The stunning road discovered consists of approximately a mile long between 1,20 and 1,40 meters wide, varying by the topography of terrain. Yet it can't be fully appreciated for being covered by vegetation, but thank to researches team from Machu Picchu Park, some sections can be freed from the weeds and threes that it covered, evidencing contaiment walls of inca period up to three meters high.

 

One of the biggest important findings of this route is the tunnel of approximately five meters long, located to  2700 meters high that by the anthropologist Fernando Astete, Chief of Machu Picchu archaeological park is one the best samples of inca engineering, to verified this tunnel was constructed when the main route colapse and in view of this, our ancestors fractured the rock and openened the tunnel, that later than 500 years still operating.
